Cosmopolitan
Center of Culture Being
a historical and an exclusive area and hosting an impressive concentration
of French political and administrative power, the 7th arrondissement is also one of the most cosmopolitan districts of Paris.
The 7th hosts the headquarters of the only United
Nations agency based in France: the UNESCO.
The Maison de l'UNESCO,
built in 1958 is located behind the Ecole Militaire; a five minutes
walk from ESLSCA.
It is a major center of international encounters and cultural
activities. A
selection of international organizations based in our neighborhood: The
British Institute, 11 rue de Constantine, includes a library,
a language training center, acts as a cultural bridge between France
and the U.K., and assists in student exchange programs. Canadian
Cultural Center, 5 rue de Constantine, is home to a library,
an exhibition hall, and regularly organizes cultural and artistic events. The
American Church, 65 quai d'Orsay, hosts a number of sport, cultural
and social associations. The
American Library in Paris, 10 rue du General Camou, founded in 1920
and frequented by authors such as Hemingway and Henry Miller, houses
a collection of more that 100,000 volumes and organizes regular reading
events. The
American University of Paris, 31 avenue Bosquet, founded in
1962, is a liberal arts university offering undergraduate degree programs
in more than twelve fields of study. The Italian Cultural Institute, 50 rue de Varenne, founded in 1949, promotes Italian language and culture in France. It houses a library, and organizes Italian language courses and artistic events.
