Our Neighborhood: Paris 7

Cosmopolitan Center of Culture

Being a historical and an exclusive area and hosting an impressive concentration of French political and administrative power, the 7th arrondissement is also one of the most cosmopolitan districts of Paris.  The 7th hosts the headquarters of the only United Nations agency based in France: the UNESCO.  The Maison de l'UNESCO, built in 1958 is located behind the Ecole Militaire; a five minutes walk from ESLSCA.  It is a major center of international encounters and cultural activities.

A selection of international organizations based in our neighborhood:

The British Institute, 11 rue de Constantine, includes a library, a language training center, acts as a cultural bridge between France and the U.K., and assists in student exchange programs.

Canadian Cultural Center, 5 rue de Constantine, is home to a library, an exhibition hall, and regularly organizes cultural and artistic events.

The American Church, 65 quai d'Orsay, hosts a number of sport, cultural and social associations.

The American Library in Paris, 10 rue du General Camou, founded in 1920 and frequented by authors such as Hemingway and Henry Miller, houses a collection of more that 100,000 volumes and organizes regular reading events.

The American University of Paris, 31 avenue Bosquet, founded in 1962, is a liberal arts university offering undergraduate degree programs in more than twelve fields of study.

The Italian Cultural Institute, 50 rue de Varenne, founded in 1949, promotes Italian language and culture in France.  It houses a library, and organizes Italian language courses and artistic events.
